Research Assistant
Research assistants engaged in non-commercial research activities under the immediate supervision and direction of an HMS, HSDM or HSPH faculty member or a BML fellow are eligible for borrowing privileges at Countway. Research assistants to HMS, HSDM, and HSPH faculty are also eligible for remote access to electronic resources. The renewal application form is available here. This form must be completed and signed by both the sponsor and research assistant. The completed application should be mailed or brought to the Countway Circulation & Privileges desk along with the $5 renewal fee (our mailing address is: Privileges Desk, Countway Library of Medicine, 10 Shattuck Street, Boston, MA 02115).

Most renewals will not require a new ID card to be printed, because new ID cards no longer have expiration dates on them.

Research assistant cards are only to be used for non-commercial academic or clinical research as assigned and overseen by the sponsoring faculty member. Sponsoring faculty members assume full responsibility for any and all fines, fees, and other liabilities that may be incurred through the use or misuse of privileges granted to their research assistants, including charges for books lost or not returned when due or recalled by the library. All correspondence related to library use by research assistants will be sent to the sponsoring faculty member, who has sole responsibility for communicating any relevant information to their research assistant proxy. Research assistant privileges are non-transferable. Misuse of research assistant privileges or violation of any of these conditions will result in the revocation of borrowing privileges and termination of remote access to electronic resources.
